I’ve been to a couple of fun events recently.
The first was David Lavine’s “Habitat” at 144 Essex St. (between Stanton and Rivington). It a “looped” play where the three actors are on stage in an apartment that’s inside a warehouse. The lines are fixed but the staging is up to the actors. Its a bit of the ultimate New York voyeur experience as you watch the play through the open windows and doors of the apartment.
The second was “Discovering Columbus” where Tatzu Nishi has built a living room around the statue of Christopher Columbus seventy feet above Columbus Circle. While it was impressive to see the statue so up close and personal, as well as being able to relax a bit with the New York Times after all those stairs, the best bits were the great views up and down the streets and avenues that radiate from the circle.
Habit is on through the weekend and you can get times tickets for Discovering Columbus at www.publicartfund.org
